The Chardham Yatra is a revered pilgrimage journey that holds immense spiritual significance for Hindus. It encompasses visiting four sacred sites nestled amidst the Himalayan ranges in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The Chardham (four abodes) pilgrimage comprises the following destinations:

  1. Yamunotri: Situated at an altitude of 3,293 meters (10,804 feet), Yamunotri is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, the deity of the Yamuna River. The main attraction here is the Yamunotri Temple, which marks the source of the holy Yamuna River. Pilgrims undertake a trek of about 6 kilometers from Janki Chatti to reach the temple, passing through scenic landscapes and hot water springs.
  2. Gangotri: Located at an altitude of 3,100 meters (10,200 feet), Gangotri is dedicated to Goddess Ganga, the deity of the Ganges River. The Gangotri Temple, situated on the banks of the Bhagirathi River, is the primary pilgrimage site. Devotees visit to take a dip in the sacred waters of the Ganges and seek blessings. The temple can be reached by road from the town of Uttarkashi.
  3. Kedarnath: Positioned at an altitude of 3,583 meters (11,755 feet), Kedarnath is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Kedarnath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, is situated amidst breathtaking mountain scenery near the Mandakini River. Devotees trek for about 16 kilometers from Gaurikund or opt for helicopter services to reach the temple. The journey is marked by rugged terrain and stunning views.
  4. Badrinath: Situated at an altitude of 3,133 meters (10,279 feet), Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The Badrinath Temple, located on the banks of the Alaknanda River, is the holiest of the four pilgrimage sites. Pilgrims visit to seek blessings and witness the mesmerizing idol of Lord Badrinarayan. The temple is accessible by road from the town of Joshimath.'
