Day 1 - Manali to Jobra (2,900 meters), Trek to Chika (3,300 meters)

  • Travel : 18 kms / 1 hr
  • Trek : 3 kms / 2 hr
  • Depart from Manali early in the morning and drive to Jobra, the starting point of the trek. Begin the trek from Jobra to Chika.
  • Trek through lush forests of pine and maple trees, following the banks of the Rani Nallah.
  • Pass by several small streams and enjoy the scenic beauty of the surroundings. Reach Chika and set up camp for the night. Overnight stay in tents at Chika.

Day 2 - Chika to Balu ka Ghera (3,850 meters)

  • Trek : 9 kms / 5-6 hr
  • After breakfast, start your trek from Chika to Balu ka Ghera.
  • Trek through beautiful meadows with views of towering mountains all around.
  • Pass by the stunning Jwara and Bhalu Waterfalls.
  • Cross over rocky terrain and boulder fields.
  • Reach Balu ka Ghera, a high-altitude camping ground surrounded by mountains.
  • Set up camp for the night.
  • Overnight stay in tents at Balu ka Ghera.

Day 3 - Balu ka Ghera to Hampta Pass (4,270 meters) to Shea Goru (3,800 meters) Trek : 7 kms / 7-8 hr

  • Today is the most challenging day as you cross the Hampta Pass.
  • Start early in the morning to begin the ascent to the pass.
  • Trek through steep and rocky terrain, gaining altitude gradually.
  • Reach the Hampta Pass and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks.
  • Descend carefully to Shea Goru on the other side of the pass. Set up camp at Shea Goru and rest after the challenging day.
  • Overnight stay in tents at Shea Goru.

Day 4 - Shea Goru to Chatru (3,960 meters) and Drive to Chandratal Lake (4,300 meters)

  • Trek : 7 kms / 9 hr
  • Travel : 50 kms / 3 hrs
  • After breakfast, trek from Shea Goru to Chatru.
  • Descend through the scenic valley, passing by mountain streams and rocky terrain.
  • Reach Chatru, a beautiful campsite at the confluence of two rivers.
  • Board vehicles and drive to Chandratal Lake.
  • Enjoy the breathtaking views of the lake surrounded by snow-capped peaks.
  • Set up camp near Chandratal Lake and spend the evening relaxing.
  • Overnight stay in tents near Chandratal Lake.

Day 5 - Chandratal Lake to Manali

  • After breakfast, bid farewell to Chandratal Lake and drive back to Manali.
  • Enjoy the scenic drive through the mountains and valleys of Lahaul and Spiti.
  • Reach Manali by late afternoon or evening, concluding your memorable Hampta Pass trek with Chandratal Lake.

Who can participate

  • Age; 7 years.
  • First timer can apply; previous trekking experience is more appreciated.
  • The trekker must be fit and have sufficient stamina to cover 4 km of distance in 35 minutes without a stress.
  • Maximum age depends on your fitness level
  • The climber should be able to carry a 10-12 kg backpack.

 Health Awareness

  • Pulse rate at rest must be in between (60 to 90 beats per minute)
  • Blood Pressure Reading must be in between (DIASTOLIC 75 – 85, SYSTOLIC 100 - 130 mm Hg)
  • Respiratory rate at rest must be in between (12 to 20 breaths per minute)
  • Should not have Liver and kidney issues
  • Should not have Diabetes Mellitus, Bronchial Asthma, Epilepsy, Heart problems, Hypertension etc
  • No pacemaker implant

How do I start the Hampta Pass Trek?

Hampta pass trek starts from the famous Manali, which is accessible by road. There is an airport in Kullu, which is around 60 km from Manali, but very few flights operate. The best way to reach Manali is by an overnight bus from Chandigarh or Delhi. The travel time from Delhi to Manali is around 12 to 14 hours.

Is Hampta Pass trek good for beginners?

In June you see a lot of snow in the valley of the Hampta Pass trek. You'll witness good amount of snow till the beginning of July. Then through the season, in July and August, you'll encounter rain. It brings out the flowers and lush green on the trek.
